24 September – 6 October. Hitha is read as a return of rain for a spell, with the seas rising again under the south-west wind. It sits in Hulhangu, the south-west monsoon: wetter, quieter on the islands, and planned with a covered venue held for the ceremony and the dinner.
Hitha runs from 24 September – 6 October, the fourteenth of the eighteen nakaiy of Hulhangu and the twenty-third of twenty-seven. The nakaiy are the traditional Maldivian almanac, about thirteen days each and named for the stars; fishermen still read the weather by them. Overcast days are common.
Hulhangu is the wetter monsoon: a south-west wind, short showers that often pass within the hour, and a sky with more shape than in Iruvai. The islands are quieter. Planning starts with a covered venue held for the ceremony and the dinner, decided on the afternoon, and with décor anchored, low and heavy so wind is a texture, not a problem.
