11 September – 23 September. Atha is traditionally a nakaiy of sudden squalls followed by long calm spells. It sits in Hulhangu, the south-west monsoon: wetter, quieter on the islands, and planned with a covered venue held for the ceremony and the dinner.
Atha runs from 11 September – 23 September, the thirteenth of the eighteen nakaiy of Hulhangu and the twenty-second of twenty-seven. The nakaiy are the traditional Maldivian almanac, about thirteen days each and named for the stars; fishermen still read the weather by them. The sea can rise quickly and settle just as fast.
Hulhangu is the wetter monsoon: a south-west wind, short showers that often pass within the hour, and a sky with more shape than in Iruvai. The islands are quieter. Planning starts with a covered venue held for the ceremony and the dinner, decided on the afternoon, and with décor anchored, low and heavy so wind is a texture, not a problem. Build an hour of flexibility into the ceremony time and keep the covered venue ready; the decision is made on the afternoon.
