4 May – 16 May. Kethi is traditionally the planting season, when the rains settle in and farmers put crops in the ground. It sits in Hulhangu, the south-west monsoon: wetter, quieter on the islands, and planned with a covered venue held for the ceremony and the dinner.
Kethi runs from 4 May – 16 May, the third of the eighteen nakaiy of Hulhangu and the twelfth of twenty-seven. The nakaiy are the traditional Maldivian almanac, about thirteen days each and named for the stars; fishermen still read the weather by them. Expect overcast spells and steady showers alongside bright hours.
Hulhangu is the wetter monsoon: a south-west wind, short showers that often pass within the hour, and a sky with more shape than in Iruvai. The islands are quieter. Planning starts with a covered venue held for the ceremony and the dinner, decided on the afternoon, and with décor anchored, low and heavy so wind is a texture, not a problem.
