Iruvai monsoon · nakaiy 8 of 27
The Maldives in Fasbadhuruva.
27 February – 11 March. Fasbadhuruva is the second Badhuruva and, by tradition, the hottest and driest stretch of the year. It sits in Iruvai, the dry north-east monsoon, the season most couples ask for first and the busiest on the islands.

Fasbadhuruva runs from 27 February – 11 March, the eighth of the nine nakaiy of Iruvai and the eighth of twenty-seven. The nakaiy are the traditional Maldivian almanac, about thirteen days each and named for the stars; fishermen still read the weather by them. The wind is light, the sky largely cloudless and rain very unlikely.
Iruvai is the dry season: mostly clear days, a north-east wind and calm lagoons, and December to March is the busiest stretch on the resort islands. Planning is about heat and wind rather than rain: shade and water for guests, florals kept cool until the last hour, anything tall weighted against the breeze. Seaplanes fly in daylight only, so arrivals and set-up are scheduled around the light. We still hold a covered venue, rarely used in Iruvai; how we plan for rain explains what we hold.
Strong, unbroken light through the day and sunsets that move from gold to deep coral a little after 18:00. Flowers need water and shade until the last moment. A ceremony in the final hour before sunset, with dinner following straight on, is the pattern. At four degrees north the length of the day barely changes and the golden hour is short, 30 to 40 minutes rather than sixty. We time the ceremony to it, and Golden hour in the Maldives explains how.

Questions about Fasbadhuruva.
What is the weather like in the Maldives during Fasbadhuruva?
Fasbadhuruva is the second Badhuruva and, by tradition, the hottest and driest stretch of the year. The wind is light, the sky largely cloudless and rain very unlikely. It runs from the end of February into the second week of March, the eighth nakaiy of Iruvai. It falls in Iruvai, the dry north-east monsoon, which runs from late November to early April.
Is 27 February – 11 March a good time for a wedding in the Maldives?
Yes, and it is the season most couples ask for. Expect dry, bright days and calm lagoons; the trade-off is demand, since the resort islands are at their busiest between December and March. Strong, unbroken light through the day and sunsets that move from gold to deep coral a little after 18:00.
Which resorts have you worked at in Fasbadhuruva?
None published yet: no project on the site is dated in Fasbadhuruva. The calendar is the same across the country, so work from the rest of Iruvai shows the same sky. Tell us your island and your dates and we confirm the resort's policy on outside planners within 24 hours.
How far ahead should we book for Fasbadhuruva?
We take bookings from one month ahead and up to two to five years ahead. Fasbadhuruva is in the busy dry season, so the resort's calendar rather than ours is the constraint; six months to a year ahead is comfortable. A proposal with a full cost breakdown follows within five days of your brief and is held for five.
