At OBLU SELECT Sangeli, as everywhere in the Maldives, sunset falls between about 17:50 and 18:20 whatever the month, and the golden hour is short, 30 to 40 minutes, because the sun sets steeply this close to the equator. The ceremony is planned to end in that light, with the photographs in it, and the tables are lit before the short dusk is over. The sun sets a little north of west from April to September and a little south of it from October to March, so which beach faces the last light is a question we answer on the site visit, not from a map. Kaafu Atoll has two monsoons: Iruvai, the dry north-east monsoon, 28 November to 7 April; and Hulhangu, the wetter south-west monsoon, 8 April to 27 November. The central atolls follow the country's classic pattern: still, dry evenings through Iruvai and a wetter Hulhangu with tall clouds and short showers.
